My second project is pretty new - I just started it about a week and a half ago.
I was browsing
Blurb.com and I came across a really cool book called
Alltaglich: Sketchbook No. One. The book is a collection of sketches from the author. She came up with the idea because she wanted to support her husband's participation in
NaNoWriMo (participating in NaNoWriMo is one of my goals). To support him, she started sketching one thing a day - one ordinary, everyday thing like a shoe or a glass or a pen. She posted them to a blog (and still does - she's still going!), but she also decided to publish some of them in volumes, on Blurb. She is currently selling her first two volumes (
Here's her Blurb profile). In one of her little comments, she challenges everyone to come up with something they can do everyday.
I love the idea of that, but am about as creative as a fruit fly. I thought for a bit and what came to me but Haiku. I love haiku - I pink puffy heart love it. A few months ago, some of us started doing "Haiku Friday" on thenest (a bulletin board I visit now and again), and occasionally we take off on strings of wild haiku - it's kind of a natural choice. Doesn't take all that much talent to make them coherent :)
What I would like to do is write them for a year and then publish them in a 7x7 book from Blurb. I've already started the book, actually - I am thinking of doing a "Volume One" next month, after I've done about a month's worth, just to see how it'll turn out; test drive backgrounds and colors and whatnot. I've bought a notebook in which I am currently keeping each day's haiku. That's working out fine - I love notebooks :) But, if I am going to use a blog to help with my happy list, then it's not a bad idea to use it for my haiku, too. I can publish them daily, or save them up and publish them every few days.... I plan to include photos with some, as well, and I could post those here, too.
So, that's the idea behind this project. Oooh, I even already have a title for my book - and it's haiku :) But I'll hang onto that for now. I'll tag each of these posts with "yearofhaiku" - not just "haiku" in case I want to post something haiku-related that isn't project-related :)
